Partha Bose

Partha Bose is acknowledged as a rising star in the world of classical Indian music. Initiated to the Sitar
at age 6, Partha went through intensive training in the truest traditions of Guru Shishya Parampara under the
tutelage of Pandit Monoj Shankar of the Maihar Gharana. In academic pursuits too he showed flashes of
talent and graduated in Economics from Presidency College, University of Calcutta.
The young virtuoso first broadcast over All India Radio at the age of 11 and began performing in music festivals
and on television in his teens. Gradually the promising youngster blossomed into a mature musician – lauded
by connoisseurs all over India as a leading instrumentalist of his generation, representing an imaginative synthesis
of the musical heritage of Ravi Shankar and Nikhil Banerjee, coloured by his own creativity. Sterling performances
at prestigious venues in India, including Dover Lane Music Conference (Calcutta), India International
Center (New Delhi), Maha Mrityunjay Mahotsav (Varanasi), further established Partha's reputation. Partha had
the rare privilege of performing at the residence of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Kishen Maharaj and Shrimati
Girija Devi and being blessed by these living legends. International recognition followed, as audiences
in USA, Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, UK, Austria, Italy, Holland, Madagaskar and Bangladesh
were overwhelmed by Partha's unique blend of tradition and imagination and also his uncanny ability to
communicate with listeners anywhere in the world.

The academic elite in some of the reputed universities of USA, Canada and Europe were witness to Partha's
articulate expression in workshops and lecture demonstrations. Partha Bose was honoured by the Government
of India when he was invited to lead a cultural delegation to African countries on the historic occasion of Golden
Jubilee Celebrations of India's Independence.

Academic Qualifications:
· Awarded Sangit Visharad title by Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, in 1987.
· Awarded Sangit Prabhakar title by Prayag Sangit Samity, Allahabad, in 1988.
· Awarded Gold Medal ( for ranking first-class-first ) in Sangit Probar ( M Mus )
examination conducted by Bangiya Sangit Parishad, affiliated to Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta.

Esha Bandopadhyay

Esha Bandyopadhyay, based in Calcutta, India, has emerged as one of the distinguished vocalists of the North Indian Classical genre. Three decades of intensive training under veteran Guru, Mrs. Krishna Dasgupta, together with a unique tonality & emotional expression has given Esha a rare ability to strike an immediate rapport with listeners anywhere in the world.
Esha's performances in major musical events in India - including Salt Lake Music Festival (Calcutta), Sutanuti Utsav (Calcutta), Habitat India (Delhi), ABC Academy (Varanasi) and others - have earned her critical appreciation.

International recognition of Esha's performances, lecture-demonstrations & workshops in the last ten years have stimulated her frequent concert-tours in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Spain and UK where leading cultural organizations & reputed universities have acknowledged her talent & virtuosity.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) featured Esha in their "Global Village" programme with interviews & excerpts from her music. Esha's music & interview has also been telecast on Indian Television.


Indranil Mallik

Indranil Mallick, a promising tabla player of rare skill, has already established himself both as a soloist and accompanist. Born to a family of genuine music connoisseurs, he received his initial training in tabla when he was only five from his uncle, Sri Montu Mallick. Later he was trained by Prof. Dhabol Bandyapadhaya.From 1985 he was under the guidance of Sri Uttam Chakraborty, senior disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri.Now he is under the guidance of Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri . Indranil belongs to Luckhnow Gharana style of tabla.

Among his numerous awards and distinctions in tabla performance he stood first in the Yuva Utsav organized by the state Government of West Bengal. In 1997 he stood first in the prestigious Dover Lane Music Competition and earned "The Best Talent Of The Year" for 1996-97, trophy awarded by the H.M.V Music Corporation. Indranil holds a "Sangeet Visarad", Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music focused on tabla, from the University of Chandigarh, which he earned in 1999.He also earned " Sangeet Kala Ratna" in the year 2006.

Keeping a rigorous performance schedule, Indranil continues to perform with renowned artists in various music conferences in India and abroad. Some of these are The Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata, West Bengal State Music Academy Annual Convocation Concert, "The GolPark Rama Krishna Mission" Kolkata, Annual Conference of Spicmacay in AgartalaSangeet Gana Sabha in Visaka Pattanam, Spicmacay tour in Madhya Pradesh, Dadar Matunga Music conference, Mumbai (A Hundred years music organisatin), Baba Alauddin Khan Sangeet Samaraho, Maihar,Santipur Sangeet Sammelan, Kolkata, Nabarang Sangeet Sammelan, Kolkata, Kerala Music Festival, Music Festival in Patna and others….

In 2002 Indranil began international touring with performances in Europe, USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Switzerland , Ukraine , Estonia, Russia, Austria and Holland. During these tours he represented India in many world renowned festivals. Some examples include the Open Baroque Festival in Estonia, The Musica Sacra International Festival in Germany, and the International Jazz and Blues festival in Austria.

Indranil is a grade 'A' artist of All India Radio, Kolkata where he is featured regularly on programs aired throughout India. He holds a Master Degree in Economics from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.


Sanatan Goswami

Sanatan Goswami is an accomplished harmonium accompanist who studied the art of harmonium under the tutelage of Pt. Maharaj Banerjee and Pt. V.G. Jog. Sanatan Goswami, is not only a very fine solo harmonim player, but also a leading accompanist in the Indian Classical music arena. He has accompanied distinguished artists such as Smt. Girija Devi, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Pt. Rajan & Sajan Mishra, Ustad Rashid Khan and many other eminent musicians. Sanatan Goswami is one of the very few performers of Indian Classical Music to perform on the harmonium at the highest level. He has been extremely popular amongst performers and followers of Indian music as well as Jazz and western classical music in the USA. The way he converted the instrument to adapt to the requirements of Indian Classical Music is beyond the imagination of players of Piano and other instruments with keyboard such as the accordion.

Chhandayan is very pleased to invite Mr. Partha Bose and his group of musicians to teach Indian classical (Hindustani) music in classes and workshops as part of Chhandayan faculty and perform in concerts in the United States of America organized and presented by Chhandayan as well as its collaborators. Their schedule during the stay will be as follows:

 

Regular Classes:

Mr. Partha Bose, Ms. Esha Bandopadhyay, Mr. Sanatan Goswami and Mr. Indranil Mallick will be teaching Hindustani classical music at the Chhandayan Center for Indian Music (CCIM), 4 West 43rd Street, #614, New York, NY 10036 as per the following schedule:

Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays: Group classes from 6 to 9 pm.
Private lessons between 1 and 5 pm. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays; on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm.

These workshops will be meant for serious and advanced students of music. Several prominent Jazz and classical musicians will attend these workshops to understand certain aspects of instrumental technique, voice culture and rhythmic elements typical to Indian music. There will also be opportunities for novices and newly initiated students and listeners to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the nuances of the music through interactive participation in discussions.
