Language of Tabla Lectures

These lecture classes presented by Samir Chatterjee are about the Language of Tabla.

Tabla is a two-piece set of north Indian drums, with seemingly innumerable tones forming into a highly developed drum-language. In this class the evolution, subtleties and expressiveness of that language will be nurtured through various means. The interactive lecture class will be open to all interested in the topic. Having an instrument during the classes will not be necessary. These lectures will be conducted online through Zoom, so you will need an internet connection and webcam/microphone.

This is a six-week lecture series, which is taking place every Monday from July 25 through August 29, 2022, from 8.20 to 9 pm.

Basic Registration is $90 for the series.

Tabla: Private Lessons

 

Learn the beautiful art of playing Tabla with Samir Chatterjee. These private lessons can be scheduled according to mutual convenience. In these lessons basic to advanced techniques, intonations, simple to advanced compositions in various talas (rhythm cycles) and layas (tempo) are taught. The lessons also include essential information related to tabla.

Each session is 1 hour long.

Raga Based Singing:
Private Classes

Learn the beautiful art of Indian singing with Sanghamitra Chatterjee in one-on-one private lessons. Lessons are scheduled according to mutual convenience. Lessons include voice training and exercises, basic knowledge of classical elements of Raga and Tala in Indian songs of different types such as bhajan, kirtan, geet, selective film songs, ghazal, regional songs, Tagore songs (Rabindra Sangeet), Nazrulgeeti, Atulprader gaan, folk songs, modern songs, etc. 

Admission is open to all ages and there is no pre-requisite. Instrument (harmonium and tanpura) are be available at the center.

North Indian Classical Singing:
Private Lessons

Learn the beautiful art of North Indian Classical Music with Rajyashree Ghosh. This is a private one-on-one class. There are no pre-requisites.

You will learn subtle nuances of Indian Classical (Khayal) singing while maintaining a balance between ancient and modern approaches. You also have the opportunity to learn semi-classical (Thumri, Dadra, etc.). The level of the student is determined by the Guru at the time of registration.

Each session is 1 hour long.


Sitar: Private Lessons

Learn Sitar with Abhisek Mallick in one-on-one private lessons. Lessons are scheduled according to mutual convenience.

Abhisek is the disciple of the Late Ustad Md. Dabir Khan (the last descendant of Mian Tansen) and the legendary maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. Abhisek has also been fortunate to have received taalim from another maestro,  Pandit Manilal Nag of Bishnupur Gharana. At present he is continuing his taalim under Pandit Shyamal Chattopadhyay. He gave his first public performance at the young age of 8 and has been a regular artiste of All India Radio since he was ten.

 

The student needs to have a sitar, a high speed internet connection, and a device to capture reasonably good video and audio qualities. The lessons will be conducted through one of these programs: skype, google hangouts or zoom. With the exchange of phone numbers WhatApp and FaceTime can also be used. All levels of students are welcome.

Both 1/2 hour and 1 hour lessons are available.

Sarangi: Private Lessons

Learn Sarangi with one-on-one one hour private lessons with Pankaj Mishra
Pankaj Mishra is part of a prestigious line of musicians, being the great grandson of the late Sarangi virtuoso Pandit Saraju Prasad Mishra, the grandson of late Pandit Mahadeo Prasad Mishra, and the Son of Shri Satya Narayan Mishra. He was trained from an early age by the renowned Sarangi player of the Banaras Gharana, the late Pandit Mahesh Prasad Mishra. Since an early age Pankaj has performed as an Solo and Accompanying Artist in India as well as in abroad. His unique style of playing and interpretation is admired and sought after by a wide range of professionals from venerable Indian masters to luminary world musicians. He is now an "A" rated player with All India Radio & Television in Kolkata.

Pankaj lives in Toronto, Canada. He will be available seven days a week between the hours of 8 am and 11 pm, EST by mutual arrangement. Students will need a Sarangi, a high speed internet connection, and a device to capture reasonably good video and audio qualities.

Learn tabla through one-on-one private lessons with Sandip Ghosh. Sandip is a talented, young, upcoming musician of the present generation. He has successfully evolved as a promising Tabla player of the Farukhabad Gharana. He is equally adept as a solo musician as well as an accompanist with vocal, instrumental and dance performances. Sandip is known for his great sense of creativity as well as intelligent and sensible accompaniment.

Learn Tabla through on-on-one private lessons with Indranil Mallick. Indranil is a promising tabla player of rare skill, has already established himself both as a soloist and accompanist. Born to a family of genuine music connoisseurs, he received his initial training in tabla when he was only five from his uncle, Sri Montu Mallick. Later he was trained by Prof. Dhabol Bandyapadhaya.From 1985 he was under the guidance of Sri Uttam Chakraborty, senior disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri.Now he is under the guidance of Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri . Indranil belongs to Luckhnow Gharana style of tabla.

Hindustani Violin: Private Lessons

Learn the art of Hindustani Violin through one-on-one private lessons with Indradeep Ghosh. Indradeep Indradeep Ghosh, one of the most renowned violin maestros of North-Indian Classical Music. All levels are welcome for an individualized experience of learning Hindustani Violin.
