Come join us at the Chhandayan Center for an evening of Classical Hindustani music played on the Classical Slide Guitar by Rhitom Sarkar. The performance will also be streamed live.

This program will feature Rhitom Sarkar on Classical Slide Guitar and Tarit Baran Majumdar on tabla.

Born to musician parents Rhitom sarkar, a child prodigy, was initiated into Indian classical Music but he picked up guitar and got hooked by its musical appeal akin to vocal due to its ability to glide. The highly innovative mind of Rhitom restlessly searched the ways and means to incorporate all the finer nuances of Indian music in his guitar.

At the age of nine began learning Guitar under Pt.Debashish Bhattacharya continued for ten yrs. Learnt under Mr.Debotosh Dey, Guitarist of AIR. Advance training Pt. Shyamal Chatterjee (Sitarist) a disciple of Late Ustad Dabir Khan Sahib and Pt .Ravi Shankar.Received taleem from Tabla maestro Subhankar Banerjee and Pt. Samar Saha. Attended special appreciation class from Pt. Ajoy Chakroborty (Vocal), Pt. Budhadeb Dasgupta (Sarod).Also received taleem in incorporating Classical Music in Spanish (Western) Guitar under the guidance of music composer-director Sri Madhu Mukherjee.

Rhitom's specialties include a) bringing some uncommon Ragas and Talas, b) incorporate elements of Spanish Guitar into Indian classical endition, and c) create a meditative effect stimulating the chakras. 


Maulik Mehta

Maulik Mehta is a student of Pt. Samir Chatterjee. He initiated his early training in Tabla under the guidance of his father Shri Pankajbhai Mehta. He further continued his training under Prof. Sashikant Sant - Ajrala gharana ( Vidyanagar, Gujarat). Based out of New Jersey, Maulik has performed with various artists in the sugam, folk and bhajan genres of Hindustani music. He is continuing his training under the guidance of Pt. Samir Chatterjee and is a member of Chhandayan-New Jersey.
