Come join us at the Chhandayan Center for a unique morning concert by Sitar maestro Deepsankar Bhattacharjee accompanied by our founder Samir Chatterjee. The concert will also be streamed live.


Deepsankar Bhattacharjee

“Sur-Moni” Deepsankar, is the fourth generation sitarist of an enlightened musical family. He embarked on his musical journey at a tender age under the tutelage of his father, Pandit Hara Shankar Bhattacharya.He also trained under the watchful guidance of his dadaguru, Padmabhusahan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan Saheb. 

He is the torch bearer of the Jafferkhani Baaj, a unique style of sitar playing invented and perfected by Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan saheb. He is an impaneled Artist of ICCR. Academic He has a master's degree in computer applications (MCA). 

Among his many accomplishments are
1) Gold Medal from Sarbobharatio Sangeeto-o-Parisad,
2) Scholarship from CCRT,
3) Awarded by Pt.Ravi Kichlu Foundation,
4) Earned the title of “Sur-Moni”,
5) Awarded with Ravi Kopikar Memorial Award from International Foundation for Fine Arts,
6) Won the AIR Music Competition,
7) Awarded by Arobindo Institute of Culture,
8) National Scholarship by Ministry of Culture,
9) Won the classical competition organised by Vedic Heritage in New York,
10) Gold Medal From Harballav Competition, 11) Honoured as Malhar Manishi by Malhar Mahostsav, Ajmeer.
11) Awarded Brahm Dhyanam Purashkar from Sangeet Vidyapeeth Parisad.

He has performed at Baba Harballav Music Festival, All Bengal Music Festival, Ramakrishna Mission Institute, Golpark, Salt Lake Music Festival, NCPA, Mumbai, German Film Festival, Naad Niket Sangeet Sammelan, tribute concert of Ustad Rahman Khan, Delhi Habitat Center, Indian Classical Music talents, Kal-ke-kalakar, Haridas Sangeet Sammelan in Mumbai, Indian Consulate, New York, Berlin, Paris, DenHaag.


Samir Chatterjee

Samir Chatterjee is a virtuoso tabla player. He performs and teaches all around the world. He can be heard on numerous recordings as soloist, and with other outstanding musicians from the East and the West. Samir lives in New Jersey and presides over a center for Indian music in midtown Manhattan. Samir teaches at several universities. He performed at the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony. He has also performed several times at the UN General Assembly. His compositions and writings are widely acclaimed. Samir played a significant role in the musical revival in Afghanistan. He is the recipient of a few awards such as the Sunshine Award, Jadu Bhatta Award and Acharya Varistha Award.
